Become Certified in pain & symptom management & Advance Your Career
Pain is one of the most common reasons clients seek massage therapy, but effectively working with pain requires more than simply treating the area that hurts.
This course provides massage therapists with a practical foundation for understanding pain and symptom patterns commonly encountered in massage practice. Students will explore the basics of pain science, contributing factors, acute and chronic pain, referred pain, muscular tension, nervous system sensitivity, and common client complaints.
Through practical strategies and real-world applications, therapists will learn how to gather useful information during intake, recognize patterns that may influence treatment, modify massage techniques based on client presentation, and communicate effectively about pain and treatment expectations.
Special emphasis is placed on client safety, scope of practice, red flags, contraindications, documentation, and recognizing when a client should be referred to another qualified healthcare professional.
By the end of the course, students will have a stronger understanding of pain and symptom management and greater confidence in making informed, individualized treatment decisions.
